Investigative Pathologist in viral‐based cancer therapies (f/m/d)
In this science‐focused position, you will be an integral driver of a translational science hub de‐convoluting early anti‐cancer research concepts.
Your role:
- Drive our histopathological assessment to develop human ex vivo based assays and investigate mechanisms of actions of oncolytic viruses/immunomodulatory therapeutics.
- Take over the full responsibility to set‐up and implement basic and new histopathological platforms, including multiplex assays and digital pathology.
- Independently execute histopathological assays to establish and/or validate key methods enabling cutting edge histology of human and animal tumor samples.
- Self‐motivated knowledge management in the field (based on scientific network and deep literature oversight) to propose and implement innovative methods and evaluation concepts.
- Actively contribute to the design and pre‐clinical validation of tissue‐based biomarker assays in collaboration with the oncology translational science (OTS) group in BI discovery research.
- Interact and communicate within a highly dynamic external research network including partners from academia, industry and the local clinical surgery departments (including presentations of the project work at scientific conferences).
- Train and supervise technical staff.
Your ideal qualification:
- Certified pathologist (MD) with a profound expertise and scientific curiosity in human cancer etiology, with postdoctoral/clinical experience in cancer biology and laboratory work.
- Hands‐on experience and in‐depth knowledge in basic and advanced tissue‐based techniques such as routine histology, immunohistochemistry (IHC)/immunofluorescence (IF) (multiplexing), microscopy is a must.
- Experience in Digital Pathology is a strong asset.
- Sound knowledge of cancer immunology, cancer immunotherapy and human based ex vivo assays is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and clear communication skills are essential.
- Engage in a multi‐disciplinary, lively, and flexible team.
- Evidence of scientific rigor as documented by first author peer‐reviewed publications.
- Fluency in English, both spoken and written; German language skills would be highly appreciated (otherwise willingness to learn German).
